MEGAN DAVIES

The Journey so far...

Megan Davies is an interdisciplinary artist and writer working across drawing, painting, and hybrid text-image forms. Her practice explores the body as a site of lived knowledge, memory, and transformation.

For more than three decades, Davies has worked with the feminine body as a terrain where personal experience, cultural narratives, and interior life intersect. Earlier work centred on testimony and the politics of lived experience, treating the body as a space where language, diagnosis, and inherited roles leave their marks.

Her recent paintings extend this inquiry toward embodiment and presence. Using saturated colour, gestural line, and repeated studies of the reclining figure, Davies explores the female body not as spectacle but as a site of aliveness, sensuality, and self-possession. Across her practice, the body shifts from a place of rupture to a space of inhabitation, suggesting a movement from survival toward celebration.

Davies’s artist-book Before the Naming / After the Labelling and the essayistic work The Little Orange Gerbera expand her visual practice into hybrid literary forms, moving between reflection, memory, and emotional inheritance.

She holds a Master of Visual Arts and a Bachelor of Visual Arts (Honours) from Griffith University, Brisbane, Australia.
