MEGAN DAVIES

The Journey so far...
Megan Davies is a Brisbane-based interdisciplinary artist and writer whose practice spans painting, drawing, photography, performance, artist books, memoir, and fiction. Working across visual and literary forms, she explores how lived experience can illuminate broader questions of identity, memory, embodiment, dignity, and human connection.
For more than three decades, Davies has worked autobiographically, using personal experience as a way of exploring broader social, political, and emotional questions. Grounded in feminist practice and testimony, her work examines the body as a site where memory, cultural narratives, diagnosis, and inherited roles leave their marks. Through symbolic imagery, self-portraiture, performance, and writing, she challenges dominant understandings of identity and the ways people are seen and understood.
More recently, her practice has expanded toward themes of belonging, compassion, and transformation. Whether through painting, creative nonfiction, or fiction, Davies is interested in the moments when people encounter one another beyond labels, histories, or social status, asking how genuine recognition and human connection become possible.
Davies holds a Master of Visual Arts (2005) and a Bachelor of Visual Arts with Honours (2000) from Griffith University, Brisbane, Australia. In 2026 she published her first artist book, Before the Naming / After the Labelling, through her own imprint, MARED Press.
